Cigdem Mumcu, M.D., was born and raised in Sakarya, Turkey. She graduated from Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty of Istanbul University, one of the best universities in Turkey. She successfully completed her residency training in Neurosurgery at 100th Year University in Van.
Dr. Mumcu completed her fellowship in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Interventional Pain Management at Umraniye Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul and at Erciyes University in Kayseri.
Dr. Mumcu has special training in Sacral Epiduroscopic Laser Disc Decompression (SELD) with the famous Dr. Kang Taek Lim in Gimpo Wooridul Hospital and Teun Teun Hospital in Seoul, Korea. SELD is a procedure that is highly effective in selected cases of patients suffering from lumbar disc herniations, failed back surgery syndrome and post-laminectomy syndrome. Dr. Mumcu is internationally known and trains physicians in the SELD procedure along with Dr. Kang Taek Lim in workshops worldwide.
Along with many other least invasive spinal procedures, Dr. Mumcu is trained in least invasive fusions, endoscopic spine surgery, and regenerative medicine (platelet-rich-plasma and stem cell) at Orthopedic and Wellness. She is also a member of Turkish Neurosurgical Society, Turkish Spine Society (TOD), AOSpine, International High-Tech Spine Society (IHTSS).
Dr. Mumcu is married and has two daughters. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and yoga. She currently works at Sultanbeyli State Hospital in Istanbul.
