I was involved in a serious vehicle collision in 2004 and have been dealing with severe lower back pain since that day. Through the years, the pain had gotten progressively worse until it got to the point where I could no longer stand for more than a minute without having to hold onto or lean on something. I had 3 bulged disks at L3, L4 and L5 that were impinging nerves. This pain was causing the muscles in my lower back to be in a constant state of spasm and sent horrible pain radiating down my leg. Over the years, the disks continued to herniated more and more until I became basically disabled. Over these years, I have done everything there is out there for this pain. It started with rest, then months of physical therapy, followed by nine months of chiropractic care and massage. I purchased an expensive inversion table and tried that all while seeing countless “specialist’s” who all said the same thing; “you are just going to have to deal with the pain for the rest of your life”. Being only 30 years old, this is hard to accept a lifetime of pain and not being able to interact with my children the way that I wanted to.  In June of 2010, the pain finally got so bad that I was unable to sleep for days at a time, could not drive or even sit straight. I visited a neurosurgeon and he suggested back surgery as soon as he looked at my MRI’s. I was in so much pain, that I agreed and had a two level discetomy/laminectomy.  I awoke after the surgery in such severe pain that it was unbearable.  After over three months of serious physical therapy, I almost felt worse than I did before the surgery.

Three months after I was done with the physical therapy, I visited Dr. Malik at Advanced Pain Management. Dr. Malik’s bedside manner is like nothing I have ever seen before.

He took the time to sit and talk with me for a very long period of time. He gave me hope that I did not have to live this life of pain and was very reassuring that he could help me.  He explained his LED procedure that he performs that is a minimally invasive surgery used to remove herniated portions of disc that is sitting on nerves.  I had this procedure done at his office in New Jersey. When I woke up after the surgery, I immediately noticed that the severe pain that I had radiating down my leg was gone. I was able to sit up straight for the first time in a long time with no pain. It was truly as if a miracle had been performed.  After my earlier surgery, I had twenty staples in my back. After this procedure, I had two band aides! One hour after I woke up from the surgery, I was able to dress myself and I walked out of the surgery center and into the passenger seat of my vehicle for the ride home. The only thing I felt for maybe 3 days after the procedure was a little bit of stiffness in my back and then nothing. No pain!  I was able to return to work in 10 days and did not need a second of physical therapy.

I am an example that you do not have to live with pain. For others that share this pain that I lived with for years know that it can be a very dark and depressing place. It is hard to make others understand what you are going through and it is very difficult to be told over and over that you must “just live with it”. Dr. Malik’s willingness and ability to think outside of the box has changed my life forever and I am forever thankful for that. If you can relate to my experiences, please see Dr. Malik. This man will change your life!  I know he changed mine.
