Christine Reinhart

Name: Christine R.                    Occupation: Nurse (Retired)

How did you hear about American Spine Center and our providers:

From Dennis Winters, previous physician. He referred me to Pain Management (APMS) in September/October 2001.

How did your pain affect your life before?

I was working 70-80 hours a week as a nurse, and hurt my back assisting a patient up. After my injury and pain, my life literally stopped. I had 6 children and could no longer work. I had to use a cane, shooting pain down my leg, was prone to falls, could not sit for more than 15 minutes at a time, let alone stand. My activities of daily life were pretty poor.

What things were you unable to do or not enjoy due to your pain?

I could not do every day things like cooking, crocheting, and go out to dinner with my husband.etc. My husband had to take on the everyday tasks at home.

How was your visit with our providers before your surgery?

The doctors took time to talk to me. Dr. Sherlekar  addressed me by my first name and made me feel special. I was on pain meds for the last 10 years and didn’t want to just “manage” it anymore. Before I knew it, the neck pain began. That’s when Dr. Sherlekar referred me to Dr. Charles Winters. When I met with him, he was  laid back and really sat down and talked to me about what I was going through. I really liked his bedside manner and how he took quality time with his patient. He did my cervical surgery, and 10 days later I had full range of motion. This was something I had not had in a very long time. After following up with Dr. Winters, he told my husband about considering back surgery to help my back pain.

What things are you able to do now that you have had the surgery?

I can walk in heels with no pain going down my legs, and as a woman that makes me happy. I can finally serve myself and do the things I was not able to do like cook, sit in a chair, go out to dinner, stand up for longer periods of time, I felt like a Zombie for 10 years and now I was back to my normal self.

How has it changed your life?

I am much more alert. I can babysit my grandchildren; have a normal life without the meds and without pain. I can DRIVE, and sit comfortably without medication.

Before, I would never let anyone touch me because of a previous failed back surgery. If I had not taken the advice from my doctors at American Spine Center, Dr. Sherlekar and Dr. Winters, I would still be a Zombie.  I trusted the doctors and their opinions mattered to me. I only wish I had met them sooner.
